Yesterday, the Polish ruling PIS party, has broken numerous time the law and parliamentary regulations, expelling from the session an opposition MP who tried to speak in defence of free media. This has sparked a unified protest of the opposition parties, which staged standing occupation of the speaker’s seat. The majority MP’s have set up voting in a separate chamber, without any control and guarantee whatsoever of the respect of rules, and have “approved” the budget and several other laws. This has caused an instant street protest in front of the Sejm, broken at 3AM by riot police. It looks like Poland has come full circle to the times of Solidarnosc, 27 years ago. On the photo above, taken this summer, you see a lady, member of KOD ( Commettee for the Defense of Democracy), angrily demonstrating against destruction of the Constitutional Tribunal by PIS. In the background, Ms Schering-Wielgus, an outspoken opposition MP from Nowoczesna.
